how it ended
The genocide ended with the Dayton Peace Accords in November 1995. The United States decided to play hostess, and invited her "dear friends" over, Serbian leader Slovodan Milosevic, the would-be Bosnian president Alija Izetbegovic, and the Croatian president Franjo Tudjman. They all talked or whatever, and drafted the Dayton Peace Accords, which had a few important points:
1- all citizens be sent to their native countries so that ethnic cleansing wouldn't be rewarded
2- the Serbs must recognize the authority of the Muslim-led government of President Izetbegovic
3- the United Nations send a peacekeeping force, first called IFOR (Implementation Force) then called SFOR (Stabilization Force),
to monitor the peace
4- all war criminals indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia be handed over to The Hague for
trial
5- the Office of the High Representative (an office appointed by the UN Security Council) oversees the civilian provisions of the
accords
